A willingness to step out of her comfort zone and take a leap of faith enabled Jaslyn Ng to discover a new career that she is passionate about and where she makes a positive impact. In the six years since joining the insurance industry, the financial services director at Prudential Assurance Company Singapore has earned a reputation as a “legendary” figure after achieving breakthroughs year after year.
The working parent of two children has achieved Top of the Table (2023) qualifier while leading her team to achieve the Multi-Million Dollar Agency distinction in 2022, which she is immensely proud of.
Personal and health factors and a desire for work-life balance were the catalysts for leaving a successful HR career, in which Ng was regarded as one of the field’s youngest leaders.
“The chance of becoming a financial consultant gave me a new lease of life: I was freed from the frequent business travels and late-night conference calls,” she explains. “Thankfully, this liberated me from the toxic corporate politics manifested in my perpetual ill health. In return, I regained what I truly yearned for: optimal balance amongst my six pillars of life and the ability to say no to being away from family.”
Those six pillars, which aptly describe Ng’s approach to business and capture her various roles and responsibilities, include family, health and fitness, self-development, career and wealth, social relationships, and mentoring.
“I strongly believe in work-life integration,” she notes. “The biggest challenge I faced in my current role was when I had to deal with divorce while wearing multiple hats: being a single mother to my children, a financial consultant to my clients, and a leader to my team.”
Ng overcomes obstacles and challenges by keeping her priorities top-of-mind. She focuses on activities that generate ROI and channels her aspirations into positive outcomes.
After graduating with a bachelor’s degree from Nanyang Technological University, Ng embarked on a career in HR, where she worked her way up to senior-level roles at big MNCs, including DHL and Coca-Cola.
“The years of experience I had accumulated in various top MNCs enabled me to develop a strong, genuine yet relatable approach,” Ng adds. “Being an ex-HR global leader, I can offer value-adds to my clients from another perspective as the preferred financial consultant serving more than 500 clients, out of which more than half are senior corporate leaders and C-suite executives.”

How does he distinguish himself among fellow brokers?
“I believe all brokers are working very hard in a difficult market,” he says. “However, I have demonstrated continued growth, advocacy and performance on my client’s behalf, which is now recognised [for 10 consecutive years] in the Elite Broker awards.”
In 1990, Dixon got started with FAI, working in claims and as a team leader. From the late 1990s up until 2003, he worked at FAI and Suncorp in underwriting and as an area manager at VACC, CGU (South East Queensland). From 2003 to 2012, he got into broking and eventually started Dixon Insurance in 2013. Since then, he’s accumulated numerous acccolades, including Elite Broker, Diversity and Equity, and Fast Broker awards.
During the pandemic, Dixon challenged insurers over the Quarantine Act application to insurance wordings. His argument was that the Quarantine Act does not apply as an exclusion, as the Biosecurity Act was invoked by the Morrison Government, and this was not a subsequent amendment to the Quarantine Act. The test case in the Appeals court was won for Dixon’s client with a unanimous five-judge verdict.
He remains focused on transport, manufacturing, motor trade, engineering and large farm clients.
What are his plans for the future?
On a business level, “more of the same. I will continue to empower and encourage my staff to perform at their best as I have done for the last decade. I will continue to advocate for my clients, embracing new technology and being open to business and industry changes.”
On a personal level, Dixon invests significant time, effort and funds, along with his GT3, to support many charities through his passion for motorsport. From participating in and sponsoring the Thunderbolt Run (which provides tens of thousands of dollars in support for Beyond Blue and Prostate Cancer), to organising and running the Track Knights for Amira charity night where 28 Exotic Supercars raised funds through passenger laps in wet conditions, Dixon states “this is our time to give back to the community and those in need. My friendships and association with those seeking to do the same, allows us to contribute to those less fortunate and raise funds and awareness”.
He adds: “To be able to give back to the community is rewarding and fulfilling. I am honoured to be in a position where I can raise funds for those less fortunate and in need.”
