Arch Insurance Australia provides specialised insurance solutions for a wide range of industries and professions, spanning both the corporate and commercial arenas. Established in 2010, the company is a part of Arch Capital Group Limited (ACGL), a global leader in providing specialty insurance, reinsurance, and mortgage insurance solutions.
ACGL was launched 2001 to meet a global need for capacity. Through thoughtful organic growth and strategic acquisitions, the company has evolved into a leading diversified specialty insurer and reinsurer. Today the company has over 5,000 global employees across more than 60 offices in Asia, Australia, Europe and North America.
ACGL maintains gross written premiums of US$12.5bn (as of 31 December 2021) and holds financial strength ratings of A+ (S&P, AM Best & Fitch) and A2 (Moody’s). Key milestones in its growth include the launch of Arch Insurance and Arch Re in 2001, the establishment of Lloyd’s Syndicate 2012 in 2009 and the launch of Arch Insurance Australia in 2010.
Arch Insurance Australia operates from offices in Sydney and Melbourne. This year, the company was also recognised in the Insurance Business 5-Star Diversity, Equity & Inclusion survey for its commitment to advancing diversity and inclusion by focusing on specific DEI objectives that tie to colleagues, customers and culture.
“One of the key challenges that any organisation faces in the context of its DEI program is how to ensure that the ultimate goals that you set out are achieved,” says Dom Brannigan, regional manager, Arch Insurance Australia. “That means having measurable success criteria and constantly assessing performance against those criteria. At Arch, we have established several DEI-related targets with set dates for achievement which extend from board-level composition down and we have the commitment from the C-suite and at every level of our organisation to deliver on those targets.”
At Arch Insurance Australia, the DEI program has been embedded into every facet of their operations. The team works diligently to ensure that the program is seamlessly integrated into every aspect of the company.
“From our recruitment strategy and building out our Arch Employee Networks, to promoting inclusive behaviour through our Arch Experience initiative and incorporating critical aspects into learning and leadership development, the program has become very much business as usual at Arch,” says Michelle Rudd, operations manager.
Arch Insurance Australia adopts a flexible and customer focused approach that encourages empowered underwriters to develop innovative insurance solutions across both corporate and commercial market segments.
Arch Insurance Australia’s dedicated in-house claims team also hold 5-star and 4.5-star LMI Claims Comparison ratings for providing an effective and efficient claims experience from notification through to resolution, ensuring that brokers and client needs are at the forefront of every decision.
Following organic growth and acquisitions, such as Resource Underwriting Pacific in 2015, Arch Insurance Australia now underwrites over AUD$100m on Lloyd’s paper across the following core lines:
• Accident & Health
• Casualty
• Directors & Officers
• Professional Indemnity
• Property
The company also provides insurance solutions across niche specialty areas including Marine, Specie and Terrorism.
In 2021, the company was named as one of the country’s leading employers in the Insurance Business Top Insurance Employers 2021 list. They secured top spot for workplace culture and ranked in the top three across numerous key categories, including professional development, positive working relationships and communications.
