Leadership
Peter Kelaher has more than 15 years of experience in the insurance industry and 13 years with Chubb. In his current role, Peter has executive operating responsibility for Chubb’s general insurance business, including commercial property and casualty, traditional and specialty personal lines, and accident and health insurance. He oversees all facets of the business including strategy, product and business development, underwriting and service operations, and profit and loss performance. He was previously head of property and casualty, Australia and New Zealand at Chubb, and prior to the integration of ACE and Chubb, held the position of assistant vice president and product manager for D&O, EPL and crime. He holds a Bachelor of Business/Laws and a Graduate Diploma of Applied Corporate Governance.

Chris Gough was appointed as head of property and casualty (including financial lines) for Australia and New Zealand in 2021. In this role, he is responsible for the management, performance and underwriting results of the P&C portfolio. Prior to his current role, Chris was the casualty manager for Australia and New Zealand. He has over 18 years in the insurance industry across underwriting, distribution and management. Chris joined Chubb in Hong Kong in 2013 to establish the Workers’ Compensation and Employers’ Liability business in Asia. Prior to returning to Australia, Chris was the head of casualty in Singapore.

Kat Guthrie is an experienced human resource executive with a demonstrated history of working in the financial services industry for the past 21 years. She began her career in psychology and complemented her psychology qualifications with an MBA, specialising in HR, giving her the curiosity to transition to HR roles, thriving on developing people strategies to create cultures of high performance for better business outcomes.
She has extensive experience in large-scale change programs and transformation initiatives, working with Suncorp for 12 years, starting when the company integrated with Promina. Kat has worked for both manufacturing and corporate organisations, spending most of her career in insurance. She joined Chubb as the head of HR at the start of 2020, weeks before the declaration of the global pandemic. Her curiosity, quest for learning, and strength in problem solving have driven results in complex environments. She has a passion for supporting leaders and workforces in building resilience and strength through people strategies that focus on capability development, diversity and physical and mental wellbeing programs, enabling people to bring their best selves to work for personal and business success.

Chubb Insurance Australia Limited
John French is Chubb’s acting head of distribution, A&NZ. In this role, he works closely with the leadership of Chubb’s broker partners to drive the growth of products and services in the broker distribution channel.
John has enjoyed a distinguished career with Chubb that spans more than 20 years. His senior leadership roles with the company commenced in 2003 when he became country president of Chubb in Singapore. As the country president of Chubb in Thailand from 2005 to 2007, John managed one of the fastest growing operations for the company in the Asia-Pacific region. In 2007, he became country president for Hong Kong and Macau, where his skilful leadership saw both operations go from strength to strength. He took on the role of overseeing Chubb’s general insurance operations in Taiwan, in addition to his role as country president for Hong Kong and Macau, in June 2011.
From 2014 to 2018, John was country president of Chubb in Australia and New Zealand. During this tenure, he successfully led the local integration of Chubb’s two legacy companies.
In 2018, he stepped down from country leadership responsibilities and took up the role of SVP, head of broker distribution for Chubb Asia-Pacific before becoming head of global brokers for Chubb in A&NZ. He is now acting head of distribution for A&NZ.

Demetra Day is the head of major accounts division for Australia and New Zealand, dedicated to providing premium service for large global and domestic clients and business partners, through delivering crafted solutions and services encompassing underwriting, claims and risk engineering.
Demetra has 30 years of experience in the insurance industry. She has been with Chubb since 2000 and has held a number of leadership roles in this time. Most recently, Demetra held the role of financial institutions and commercial crime portfolio manager in the Asia-Pacific region. Prior to this, she was the financial lines manager, A&NZ, leading the financial lines team through integration after ACE’s acquisition of Chubb in January 2016.
Outside of the insurance industry, Demetra has held a non-executive board position in a private coffee manufacturing company. She is also passionate about using her skills to help mentor professional women in the workforce. She holds a Bachelor of Commerce and Science from the University of Melbourne.
