Born in Sunderland in the northeast of England, Dale Hansen relocated to Australia at the age of five. He started working in the insurance industry straight out of high school and had various broking roles with Warren Saunders Insurance Brokers, NRMA and Guild Insurance.
In 2006, he and his young family moved to the Northern Rivers region of New South Wales, where he took on a senior risk management role at Ballina Shire Council.
The following year, Dale moved to the Gold Coast to join Austbrokers Coast to Coast, initially as branch manager of the Tweed Office, then as a director in 2010. In 2013, he became the sole principal and chief executive officer/managing director of the business. Prior to working at Austbrokers Coast to Coast, he held a variety of senior insurance-related roles in sales, underwriting and risk management. He has more than 30 years of experience in the insurance industry.
Dale’s Hot List award is the latest in a number of impressive achievements. These include winning the 2016 Stephen Ball Memorial Award as NIBA Broker of the Year and multiple ANZIIF and Insurance Business awards.
Dale considers himself fortunate to have received guidance from excellent mentors who have helped build his successful career. He still actively works with some of his mentors and now enjoys sharing his own experiences to support others on their journey. He finds that watching others grow professionally and achieve their career goals provides an enormous sense of satisfaction and pride.
While the recent period of lockdowns and social distancing proved frustrating, it did serve to highlight the fact that mentoring also serves an important social function. Dale feels strongly that, as social beings, people seek a level of personal connection beyond virtual meetings. Both he and the individuals he interacts with value the quality of relationships that can be forged by speaking face to face, and sharing both personal and professional experiences.
Despite recent challenges and continuing change, Dale believes that the insurance industry’s future has never been brighter. Insurance not only helps people to put the pieces back together as it provides a sense of security and safety, but also underpins the growth and development that enables the global economy to function and thrive. First and foremost a people business, insurance will continue to provide fulfilling and lifelong careers into the future.
Dale holds a diploma in Financial Services (Insurance Broking) and a graduate certificate in Law from Bond University. Because he enjoys the learning and development that bring continuing personal and professional growth, he is currently studying for a Master’s degree in Law.
Outside of his professional and academic interests, Dale is a passionate fan of the St George Illawarra Dragons and Surfers Paradise Rugby Union Club.
