Under Kleiner’s leadership, the carrier became a technology company that delivers flexible specialty insurance solutions and innovates to continue to meet the needs of distribution partners and customers in the changing digital landscape. With this transformational effort, American Modern essentially created a new company from the ground up, revamping its product suite, which had been very complex with multiple standalone, fragmented insurance product versions, into a fully integrated, modular product suite of 11 insurance solutions. These changes allow agents to provide bespoke insurance protection that is customized for each policyholder’s unique needs. It also dramatically reduced internal complexity and enabled American Modern to significantly increase speed to market and keep its products fresh and up to date.
With the business transformation effort now largely complete, the company has begun providing innovative digital solutions to its distribution partners and policyholders. These solutions include a revamped online first notice of loss process, digital payments for claims resolution, a chatbot that answers common questions, and a new online experience that allows policyholders to seamlessly manage and self-service their accounts and receive online support through every stage of their customer journey. As for what’s next, the company plans to launch a digital experience for partner agents in 2023.
As CEO, Kleiner has created an inclusive and engaged workplace culture that has resulted in American Modern being recognized as a Top Workplace in the greater Cincinnati region for nine consecutive years. In addition, in 2022, American Modern was recognized for outstanding achievement in four areas: professional development, work-life flexibility, innovation and leadership. Kleiner was presented with the 2022 Top Workplaces Leadership Award in the Large Business Category. When asked how it felt to receive this award, which was wholly based on employee feedback and opinion, Kleiner stated, “I am humbled. As a leader, you are only as good as the team around you, and I am blessed to have the best team that I could wish for. They deserve the award more than I do.”
In addition to serving as CEO and President of American Modern, Kleiner is also a member of the Munich Re US P&C Executive Board and serves as a trustee on the Conference Board’s Committee for Economic Development. He is a hands-on leader who joins employees and other volunteers in supporting American Modern’s charitable efforts that give back to the local community, which is the Cincinnati area, and the industry.
