As CEO of Zurich Canada, Saad Mered leads all aspects of the company’s Canadian business. He reports to Kristof Terryn, CEO for North America. Prior to this role, Saad served as group chief claims officer responsible for leading the global claims function, improving claims capabilities, and strengthening customer focus. His previous leadership roles at Zurich include CEO for the Middle East and Africa and CEO for the Middle East.
Saad joined Zurich in 2008, bringing more than 24 years of experience in the insurance industry. He began his career at AIG, where he held a number of underwriting leadership and general management roles in the US, Egypt, and Europe. Immediately prior to joining Zurich, he was responsible for overseeing operations and strategic growth initiatives focused on the small business segment internationally.

In her role as head of property at Zurich Canada, Yvonne Steiner leads the development and delivery of the company’s property strategy, building on Zurich’s strength as an industry leader. She oversees a team of property underwriters in commercial property, energy, construction and marine – all tasked with using their expertise to sustainably grow the business in Canada and enhance marketplace presence with customers and brokers. Prior to joining Zurich, she was head of global specialty lines at RSA Canada and a board member at RSAIA Inc, where she was responsible for the operational, trading and underwriting operations for the risk managed segmentation of commercial insurance.
Yvonne’s background in brokerage operations, risk management and underwriting also includes 11 years at Swiss Re, working both in the international market on a single-risk basis (specializing in natural resources and rail), and in Canada, where she was head of property and energy until 2018. She also previously held roles of increasing responsibility at GCAN Insurance Company (formerly Gerling Global) and Finning International Inc.

His team focuses on innovation, data science, digitalization and simplification as core pillars. Joe has nearly 20 years of experience in insurance as a practicing lawyer and claims professional. Starting as an associate at Forbes Chochla, he earned litigation and trial experience that he later put to use for Liberty International Underwriters in ascending levels of both claims and underwriting positions, particularly in the financial lines segment. Prior to joining Zurich, he was head of claims at AIG Canada.
