“No matter how many clients I have, I make sure to call each one personally every quarter. It’s a chance to not only update them on their portfolio, but also check on how they’re doing personally”

MaryKate Townsend joined Lloyd’s Canada in May 2023 in the role of market development director, where she supports strategic relationships with Lloyd’s stakeholders, including coverholders, underwriters, and brokers, and develops access to the Lloyd’s market for insurance partners across Western Canada. She contributes to Lloyd’s strategic goals and objectives by expanding its footprint and enhancing its market position through collaborative partnerships in Western Canada.
For nearly a decade, Townsend was manager and senior underwriter at a Canadian MGA, where she was appointed vice president of the Central Canada region in early 2022. Throughout her 15-year insurance career, she has experience as a principal broker and earned the CAIB designation, and most recently, in the first ever graduating class, the CMGA designation.
Townsend is the past president of the Canadian Association of Managing General Agents (CAMGA). While serving as an executive on the CAMGA board for two years, she focused her efforts on representing the delegated authority sector in a professional manner through education and advocacy among her peers and industry partners. She also held various roles with the London Insurance Brokers Association (LIBA), including president and chair, and has been an ambassador for the industry with the Insurance Institute of Canada.
In addition to being a wife and mother of three daughters, Townsend remains closely connected with her hometown community, where she is the founder and co-chair of the Elgin County Drowning Prevention Coalition. She also volunteers with her local Big Brothers, Big Sisters organization as an in-school student mentor.
