With over 30 years of experience in the insurance industry internationally, Shirley Chisholm co-founded Ebony Women International Insurance Network in 2009, a registered not-for-profit organization providing peer-to-peer coaching, mentoring, empowerment, and networking opportunities for Black women and youth through personal and professional development sessions.
Chisholm actively volunteers with various organizations, including the Insurance Institute of Canada’s Career Ambassador program, DECA’s regional and national competitions, Mentorly, the Regional Diversity Roundtable, and Peel Region. She served as the past president of the Gundy Gabbers Toastmaster Club and as parliamentarian for the Urban Financial Service Coalition’s Toronto Chapter from 2005 to 2008 (now CAUFP). Currently, she sits on the advisory board of CAUFP.
She is a Fellow Chartered Insurance Professional and Certified Risk Manager. She recently completed the Executive Education Program – Board Readiness at Ted Rogers School of Management – TMU.
Chisholm’s achievements include receiving the National Role Model Awards from the Diversity Advancement Network in 2016, being included in Insurance Business’ 2020 Global 100 list, receiving the Leader of Change award by Business Insurance Canada in 2021 for her contribution to diversity and inclusion in the industry, participating in the 2022 Black Women in Leadership, and being recognized as one of Insurance Business Canada’s Elite Women 2023.
