Joel Askew serves as unit manager, commercial services at Navacord, where he holds a leadership role overseeing a commercial services team supporting complex mid-market, large, and multinational industrial and energy clients. In addition to managing a portfolio of sophisticated Canadian and international accounts, he provides leadership and technical guidance across the Commercial Services department and plays a key role in operational initiatives, talent development, recruitment, and training.
As the office’s cyber excellence lead, Askew serves as a subject matter expert on cyber risk, claims advocacy, and coverage strategy. Over the past year, he developed a cyber claims protocol that maps the full lifecycle of a cyber incident, providing advisors and clients with a practical framework for responding to cyber events. He also leads cyber education initiatives, develops firm-wide resources, and supports complex cyber placements and RFPs within Navacord.
Recognized as an Insurance Business Canada’s Rising Star for 2026 and a Chubb Rising Star in 2024, Askew is committed to developing the next generation of insurance professionals while helping clients navigate increasingly complex risks. He holds a Bachelor of Commerce in Energy Management from the University of Calgary’s Haskayne School of Business.
