Stefan Feldmann is the head of HDI Global Asia Pacific and managing director of HDI Global SE Australia.
Under his leadership, HDI Global SE Australia closed over $500 million of GWP in 2023, which was an eye-catching increase of 35% on the previous year. However, Feldmann attributes those impressive results to the team he has built.
“It’s our people who have driven this success,” he says.
Feldmann successfully restarted the HDI Global SE brand in Australia and New Zealand after joining the group in 2010. He assumed responsibility for the Singapore office in 2016, which has grown into a sizeable regional player. Then in 2022, the Hong Kong office, which looks after Greater China and South Korea, was folded into a new regional Asia-Pacific structure, with Feldmann now overseeing all Australia, Singapore and Hong Kong operations.
His strategic focus has been split across:

To build a team that aligns with his leadership goals, Feldmann has been meticulous in selecting his personnel.
He says, “It’s about identifying individuals who possess a strong professional outlook and fit HDI’s culture. I want the team to build emotional connections that become alliances that are productive, meaningful and foster a sense of unity.”
Despite recording outstanding results, Feldmann is ambitious to continue driving HDI forward in the Asia-Pacific region.
In order to do this, he says, “The risk sector is in continuous evolution, and as a partner in transformation, I believe in maintaining a learning mindset.”
This, he feels, is the path to sustained growth.
Feldmann is confident the industry will seek out HDI because of the ethos he has put in place, where impeccable technical skills are demanded but are not the only consideration.
“You need a story and community that employees, business partners and clients want to be actively part of,” he says. “Ultimately, it’s those relationships that are vital to building an environment of trust, and that’s where this business can thrive.”
Prior to his current role, Feldmann established Allianz’s liability department for Asia-Pacific. His career began in his hometown of Münster, Germany, back in 1995.
Feldmann has leveraged his extensive experience to forge a team-oriented approach at HDI.
He says, “My philosophy is to create a sense of unity and purpose that enriches the environment and influences how my team engages with partners. It’s about building relationships for genuine understanding and mutual benefit.”
Focusing on the vital interaction between HDI and brokers, Feldmann has been deliberate in including them as part of the company’s culture.
“Brokers can be sure they are part of a community that values long-term relationships, shared goals and mutual respect,” he says. “It’s an approach brokers find refreshingly different.”
This ability to be inclusive and understand the value of relationships is instilled in HDI’s staff via three simple directives:
