“No matter how many clients I have, I make sure to call each one personally every quarter. It’s a chance to not only update them on their portfolio, but also check on how they’re doing personally”
Kelvin Rampersad,
Carte Wealth Management
Joanna Browning is Markel International’s managing director for people experience. She is also part of the executive committee of the company.
Browning is a firm believer that everyone can play a part in building the success and culture of a company. In Markel, she found a company where she could do that and has enjoyed a 20-year career and counting.
Taking a “people first” approach, she has been a spearhead for change within the organisation, leading the charge on a number of significant projects that have transformed how the company recruits, develops talent, communicates and engages employees. In addition, she has helped to shape the overall organisational design of the company and aims to find new ways to link the business and people strategies while creating a great experience through flexible working, technology and physical environment.
Browning is a passionate advocate for diversity and inclusion, not only within Markel but also in the wider insurance industry. She has launched an employee-led framework called Style In Action, which is committed to bringing the Markel Style to life through action across five pillars – community, inclusion, well-being, recognition and innovation – where everyone is encouraged to play a part in Markel’s culture and in the communities around them.
Outside of work, Browning is a mother of three. Having recently moved to Bath, she can normally be found walking the dog, watching school sports or sampling farm shop brunches.
