Robert “Bob” Petrilli serves as president of the underwriting division of Amwins. In this role, he oversees 14 operating companies that offer more than 90 in-house programs, representing over $2.6 billion in underwriting premium and one of the largest MGA platforms in the United States. Before joining Amwins, Bob served as CEO, North America, for Swiss Re Corporate Solutions and group managing director for Swiss Re Group. Prior to his tenure at Swiss Re, he worked at General Electric Industrial Risk Insurers and GE Global Asset Protection Services in a variety of leadership roles, including general counsel, chief underwriting officer, and chief operating officer. He received his Juris Doctor degree from Creighton University School of Law and his bachelor’s degree in Economics from Iona College.

Ryan Armijo currently serves as the COO of Amwins’ underwriting division, supporting 14 operating companies. He is responsible for building technology platforms for the division’s programs, creating new underwriting capacities and partners, and driving operational efficiencies across the division. Prior to joining the underwriting division, he was vice president at Amwins Access, where he developed proprietary products, led underwriting data initiatives, and managed strategic carrier relationships. Ryan specializes in small commercial product build, P&C underwriting, and technology/insurtech. Previously, he served as vice president of business development for Hamilton Insurance. He received his MBA from the NYU Stern School of Business and his bachelor’s degree in Finance from the University of Notre Dame.

Mark Bernacki is the newly appointed chief underwriting officer of Amwins, the first to serve in the role. Previously, he served as president of Amwins Special Risk Underwriters. In addition, he runs the Amwins alternative risk transfer team. He was recently named to Insurance Business America’s Hot 100 list in recognition of his forward-thinking strategies and ability to turn unprecedented challenges into opportunity. Prior to joining Amwins, he was head of global property and head of US property for Beazley Group. He was also employed by Liberty Mutual Group as VP of broker operations and assistant VP of Midwest operations. He holds dual citizenship in the US and the UK, giving him a unique perspective on the global insurance market. He received his degree from the University of Wisconsin Madison and has undertaken MBA coursework at Rutgers University.

Mary Lavoie is the head of risk management and compliance within AXA XL’s North America P&C programs. She joined AXA XL in 2002. Her (re)insurance experience includes property and casualty primary and treaty underwriting, encompassing national accounts, surplus lines, financial products, mass marketing, and professional segments.
In 2017, she earned a Doctor of Business Administration degree from Wilmington University in New Castle, Delaware. Her dissertation was titled “Retention of Property Casualty Insurance Employees”. She is an adjunct professor at Wilmington University and advises doctoral candidates. She is also a member of the Sigma Beta Delta National Honor Society.

Damian has 30 years of industry experience in all lines of underwriting with three national carriers. He has spent most of his career in delegated authority program management and is skilled in portfolio and relationship management for large books of business. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics and Psychology from Swarthmore College, as well as a CPCU designation.
