Brad Wearn, serving as the chief technology officer, brings extensive expertise and forward-thinking approaches to the evolving landscape of IT services procurement and management. With a keen eye on industry trends and organisational needs, he recognises the shift toward purchasing IT capabilities “as a service,” acknowledging both its agility and potential security risks.
In his role, Wearn navigates the challenges posed by “shadow IT” and the impact it can have on organizational spending and security. Embracing an IT delivery model focused on flexibility and efficiency, he champions the adoption of “as a service” platforms. This approach ensures transparency in usage and enables the implementation of necessary controls to safeguard critical data and systems.
By spearheading this transformation, Wearn moves away from defending a large IT budget toward facilitating the adoption of tailored technology solutions aligned with evolving business needs. These leaders have been pivotal in driving the business’ professional liability success. They excel at fostering relationships, delivering innovative solutions, and maintaining profitability, all of which make Admiral a trusted and reliable partner for brokers.
Their most significant strategic initiative has been investing in their people. They have worked diligently to build a pipeline of future talent, focusing on hiring individuals who are a cultural fit and aligned with the company’s values.
Admiral then provides them with the training they need to excel in E&S underwriting. In addition, the company develops its existing staff, focusing on relationship-building and problem-solving, and leveraging its expertise to build Admiral into an exceptionally valuable market. By doing so, Admiral has helped brokers excel for its clients.
To support this, Admiral brought in a learning and development expert, established boot camps for new hires, created detailed career ladders with management and alternate growth paths, and prioritized hiring the best talent in the market.
The reason Admiral has been so successful is the presence of exceptional people on the front lines and the strong support they receive behind the scenes.
Admiral’s claims department is in-house, allowing the team members to collaborate more effectively and find the best solutions for insureds.
They break down silos between departments, with a claims team often involved in product development and launch discussions, while underwriters actively participate in claims reviews. This integrated approach ensures that products and services are constantly aligned with the realities of claims handling.
The future is exciting for Admiral as its professional liability team is transitioning to a national structure, allowing it to continue concentrating on the wholesale market and deliver faster, more consistent solutions across the country.
This shift will help Admiral enhance the depth and breadth of its offerings. Additionally, its is focused on innovation, with plans to continually expand its appetite and roll out new products to stay ahead of market needs.
