Building a leading specialty insurance firm in North America was no small feat. The empire that is now H.W. Kaufman Group, parent company to Burns & Wilcox, started with the vision of one man, founder Herbert W. Kaufman. Through his leadership, Herb was able to grow the company into the multibillion-dollar organization it is now, with over 60 offices around the globe and more than 2,000 associates – all while sticking to his core values. Now, his son Alan Jay Kaufman stands at the helm of the organization, and while Herb is no longer with us, his vision and dream live on within the legacy he built.
Under the leadership of Alan, chairman and CEO of Burns & Wilcox, the company has built its reputation on prioritizing professional development and fostering lifelong learning. The company’s longstanding family ownership and operation are reflected in its commitment to put associates first. Alan established the Kaufman Institute, an educational hub dedicated to expanding the knowledge and skills of associates and industry professionals overall. From associate onboarding to highly specialized training, Kaufman Institute provides associates the tools they need to deliver the best solutions to clients.
Representing the third generation of family leadership, Danny holds the role of president at Burns & Wilcox, where he oversees the company’s US operations and guides its global sales, marketing, and technology teams. Under Danny’s leadership, the company has prioritized innovation, which includes the development of a proprietary digital platform and new resources designed to foster internal collaboration and client engagement.
Knowledgeable, compassionate, forward-thinking and client-focused leadership is central to the way Burns & Wilcox does business. The company provides industry-leading service to its clients, delivers outstanding results for its carrier partners and prioritizes the evolution of its business.
“Throughout 2022, we also expanded market share with more than 25 of the country’s largest retailers – our fastest growing client segment,” says Danny. “Given that retail brokers and agents are expected to consolidate their business with fewer wholesalers in the year ahead, we’re well-positioned to capitalize and further elevate its market position.”
