“No matter how many clients I have, I make sure to call each one personally every quarter. It’s a chance to not only update them on their portfolio, but also check on how they’re doing personally”

Christine LaSala is Beazley Group’s interim chair of the board of directors, a role she assumed in October 2022. Prior to becoming chair, she was the senior independent director, chair of the remuneration committee, and served on the nominating committee. She was appointed to Beazley’s board in July 2016 and served on the audit and risk committee from 2016 to 2021.
She also serves on the boards of Beazley’s US insurance company and Beazley Furlong, the Lloyd’s managing agency. In late 2021, LaSala joined the board of Sedgwick as an independent director. She retired as chair of Willis Towers Watson (WTW) North America. In that role, she worked closely with the leadership of WTW on business development and aligning the company’s global resources to deliver services and solutions to the firm’s global clients.
Prior to joining WTW in early 2014, LaSala was, for 10 years, president and CEO of the WTC Captive Insurance Company, a not-for-profit corporation providing liability insurance to the City of New York and over 100 private contractors. WTC Captive led the negotiations for the landmark settlement of over 10,000 environmental tort cases against the City of New York and the private contractors that undertook rescue, recovery, and debris removal work after the 9/11 terrorist attack.
In agreeing to serve as president of WTC Captive, LaSala came out of retirement after a long and successful career as the only woman partner of Johnson & Higgins. She was president of Johnson & Higgins New York, president of the firm’s tri-state operations and served on its board of directors. She managed Johnson & Higgins’ largest operation and provided advice to many of the firm’s largest clients.
LaSala has over 45 years of management, client leadership, and financial experience in the insurance industry as an underwriter, an insurance broker working with large corporate and public institution clients, as the president of the WTC Captive Insurance Company, and as a non-executive director. She can contribute to board discussions on strategy, change management, mergers and acquisitions, leadership diversity, people development, financial performance (including budgeting, revenue growth and expense control), audit, regulatory and compliance activity, risk assessment, and client performance. In addition to her insurance industry experience, LaSala has deep experience and expertise in not-for-profit leadership, having served on and led boards for the past 30 years.
From 2001 to 2002, she was acting head of school at the Children’s Storefront, a tuition-free, independent school in Harlem, where she also served as president of the Storefront’s Board of Trustees from 1997 until 2013. From 2002 to 2008, she was on the Board of Trustees of the College of New Rochelle, serving as vice chair in 2007–08. She rejoined the College of New Rochelle’s board in early 2017, serving again as vice chair, and stepped down from the board in 2020.
LaSala was named to the YWCA Academy of Women Achievers in 1980, recognized as Woman of the Year by the Association of Professional Insurance Women in 1997, and was a David Rockefeller Fellow in 1994–95. She was the 2016 Spencer Education Foundation honoree and named to the Insurance Business America Hall of Fame in 2021. She is a graduate of the College of New Rochelle and studied finance at Fordham University.
A New York City resident for five decades, she lives with her partner and their 24-year-old daughter.
