“I will continue to empower and encourage my staff to perform at their best as I have done for the last decade. I will continue to advocate for my clients, embracing new technology and being open to business and industry changes”

As a child raised in Serbia, Martina Seferovic had to grow up fast.
“I’m grateful for the hardship, as it was key to defining my future self,” she says. “I wasn’t exposed to American-headquartered companies being led by Serbians, so while my aspirations involved leading others to greatness, I never dreamed I’d be at the helm of a US-based, global organization with more than 700 employees.”
Seferovic started out with an entry-level position at an American insurance outsourcing company. There, she met a mentor who would guide her to a successful career, which has culminated in her one-year tenure as chief executive and president of Outsource Insurance Professionals (OIP). Currently, she is focused on making the right strategic decisions necessary to drive growth while empowering employees and industry partners. Her work involves embracing change and developing offshoring resources.
“The single biggest achievement of my career has been building OIP from the ground up and creating brighter futures for our employees and our industry – overseeing the entire company, steering the growth of both clients and employees, and ensuring the stability and sustainability of our operations,” she says.
“I’m also incredibly proud of our recent expansion to India. The new office serves as a hub for our employees in that region and will emulate the successful model we’ve built in Serbia, where each employee graduates from our proprietary insurance academy to begin their journey towards a fulfilling career and exciting future.”
Her strongest quality professionally is developing personnel by identifying unique strengths and potential and mentoring them to greatness. To do so, she likes to lead by example.
“I don’t believe in the leadership mantra ‘It’s lonely at the top,’” she says. “Leadership doesn’t have to be a lonely job. Providing opportunities for others to lead empowers and motivates individuals to take ownership of their work and make decisions that benefit the organization as a whole. Embracing a culture of shared leadership, collective ownership and accountability ultimately leads to greater success and growth.
“I encourage and expect my leadership team to guide, inspire, and motivate the group. Their job is to rally the troops and move them toward the same goal. This requires a collaborative leadership approach involving open discussions and creative problem solving, resulting in more well-rounded, thoughtful decisions with a longer-lasting positive impact.”
A few maxims that have guided Seferovic through her career include:
• Surround yourself with people smarter than you.
• Choose a job you love and you won’t have to work a day in your life.
• Build the people so that the people can build the business.
• Always strive to shape the future of the industry you’re in.
She adds, “As a leader, I also believe in giving back to the community and making a positive impact in the world.”

How does he distinguish himself among fellow brokers?
“I believe all brokers are working very hard in a difficult market,” he says. “However, I have demonstrated continued growth, advocacy and performance on my client’s behalf, which is now recognised [for 10 consecutive years] in the Elite Broker awards.”
In 1990, Dixon got started with FAI, working in claims and as a team leader. From the late 1990s up until 2003, he worked at FAI and Suncorp in underwriting and as an area manager at VACC, CGU (South East Queensland). From 2003 to 2012, he got into broking and eventually started Dixon Insurance in 2013. Since then, he’s accumulated numerous acccolades, including Elite Broker, Diversity and Equity, and Fast Broker awards.
During the pandemic, Dixon challenged insurers over the Quarantine Act application to insurance wordings. His argument was that the Quarantine Act does not apply as an exclusion, as the Biosecurity Act was invoked by the Morrison Government, and this was not a subsequent amendment to the Quarantine Act. The test case in the Appeals court was won for Dixon’s client with a unanimous five-judge verdict.
He remains focused on transport, manufacturing, motor trade, engineering and large farm clients.
What are his plans for the future?
On a business level, “more of the same. I will continue to empower and encourage my staff to perform at their best as I have done for the last decade. I will continue to advocate for my clients, embracing new technology and being open to business and industry changes.”
On a personal level, Dixon invests significant time, effort and funds, along with his GT3, to support many charities through his passion for motorsport. From participating in and sponsoring the Thunderbolt Run (which provides tens of thousands of dollars in support for Beyond Blue and Prostate Cancer), to organising and running the Track Knights for Amira charity night where 28 Exotic Supercars raised funds through passenger laps in wet conditions, Dixon states “this is our time to give back to the community and those in need. My friendships and association with those seeking to do the same, allows us to contribute to those less fortunate and raise funds and awareness”.
He adds: “To be able to give back to the community is rewarding and fulfilling. I am honoured to be in a position where I can raise funds for those less fortunate and in need.”
