For Kathryn Crowley, a career in insurance was not always a part of the plan.
“I didn’t grow up expecting to work in this industry, however, it is something that I have leaned into and really enjoy. Not knowing much about an industry but then finding a path to success has been my greatest achievement,” says Crowley.
As VP, Management & Professional Solutions at Alliant Insurance Services, Crowley is instrumental in:
• Serving as Alliant’s senior management liability broker for its healthcare clients
• Expanding Alliant’s presence in the Southeast
• Monitoring market trends and sharing updates with clients
“I try to be solution-finding. Whether it be for a client or my own personal career growth, critically thinking to find the best solution has always been my best approach,” she says.
In her previous role at AIG, Crowley helped to launch a multinational platform and led a team of private and non-profit underwriters.
Using her industry expertise, Crowley provides coaching and training to junior brokers at Alliant.
“I try to set an example for younger generations, not just for women but for newer entrants into the industry. There are so many opportunities within insurance that you don’t realize when you are just starting out and it’s important to continue to pass that message along.”
As a member of The Bridge, a national not-for-profit networking organization supporting the development of female talent in insurance, Crowley’s focus on mentorship extends beyond her own organization.
“I think everyone should have a mentor to lean on. Having someone within the industry that you can confide in and use as a resource is a really beneficial tool.”
In addition to attending leadership sessions through The Bridge to drive her own professional development, Crowley will soon join the organization’s mentorship program to be a guide for other young inspiring insurance professionals.
“Insurance has largely been a male-dominated industry and over the last few years, women have started to gain more and more recognition. Whether it be for a role, a promotion or just to have a voice, a female’s perspective and input is always important.”
