“My favorite saying is, ‘Faith it ‘til you make it. Don’t fake it; believe in yourself and give yourself enough grace to learn along the way.’ That one-word change has removed a lot of imposter syndrome for me”

As an executive vice president at RT Specialty – Philadelphia, Shannon Stefanski is a leading broker in the wholesale industry. Joining the firm in 2010, she has developed a focus on construction, real estate, and manufacturing.
“Wholesaling takes an extraordinary multi-tasking effort. In its simplest format, the best wholesalers manage the ‘most’ large and small accounts at the same exact time with an elegant service approach to their team, market partners and retail customers,” says Stefanski.
“Time management and eliminating daily distractions have helped me multi-task better, which has helped me grow as a wholesale broker.”
Stefanski has contributed to the substantial growth of RT Specialty’s Philadelphia office, where she uses her 15 years of industry expertise to mentor a large team of brokers.
“I was very lucky to have guidance as a young female professional and I hope to always inspire and help others in their career path. There is an abundance of companies that can benefit from having more women in leadership.”
With accolades including a 2020 Business Insurance Women to Watch designation and a 2021 RT Specialty Patrick G. Ryan award, Stefanski provides best-in-class services to market partners and retail customers.
“I’m very grateful to work at RT Specialty every single day. We have a nimble company and the best leaders in the industry that provide me with a sales platform to go win every day,” she says.
“The insurance industry is full of opportunity. If you’re lucky enough to enter this industry, learn from good people and put the time in to truly differentiate yourself – then you can build a fantastic career.”

As a product manager, Rios knows that success is all about prioritizing and making trade-offs. The VP continually strives to find a balance between upskilling her team and herself.
“The more capable my team is, the more they can take on and allow me to tackle difficult problems, of course, but there is always a balance between the longer-term training and needing to get some work done in the short term.”
While Rios admits she doesn’t always get it right, the VP takes every experience as an opportunity to grow and learn. “I find a lot of value and enjoyment in trying something new, and excitement in not knowing what problem needs solving on a given day.”

As an elite leader in insurance, Rios hopes to use her influence to inspire young women to be bold.
“As I have moved into more leadership roles, I think it’s imperative to support others in taking risks,” she says. “My favorite saying is, ‘Faith it ‘til you make it. Don’t fake it; believe in yourself and give yourself enough grace to learn along the way.’ That one-word change has removed a lot of imposter syndrome for me.”
Hoping to see more females enter the insurance sector, Rios says the soft skills that are often attributed to feminine energy are precisely what the industry needs.
“Insurance is about people and restoring lives after a traumatic event. We need that human connection to help others rebuild. Those skills are positive and infectious energy.”
