Mike Falvey, founder, CEO, and president of Falvey Insurance Group, is a 1978 graduate of the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy in Kings Point, NY. Following his graduation, he worked with Affiliated FM Insurance as a cargo underwriter.
In 1979, Falvey went to sea with various shipping companies and eventually joined the U.S. Military Sealift Command, where he served as the first assistant engineer on board MSC vessels providing fleet support for the U.S. Navy. From 1983 to 1984, he was the liaison officer to the Royal Fleet Auxiliary in London. In 1984, he joined Donald J. Rojas in Warwick, Rhode Island, and served as an underwriter from 1984 to 1995.
In 1995, Falvey started Falvey Cargo Underwriting, a covernote facility of Lloyd’s. The company specializes in providing marine cargo cover for the high-tech and life sciences industries. It is the largest cargo covernote facility in Lloyd’s. He has grown that company since its inception into the multidisciplined Falvey Insurance Group.
Falvey holds the following insurance disciplines: Charted Property and Casualty Underwriter (CPCU), Associate in Risk Management (ARM), and Associates in Marine Insurance Management (AMIM). In 2020, he graduated from Harvard Business School OPM 55.
