Gregory Kelder is divisional senior vice president and head of claims for Great American’s environmental team. He possesses extensive business acumen in emerging environmental risks, pollution, regulation, climate change issues, and water policy.
Kelder is a highly sought-after industry speaker who shares insights with organizations such as the CPCU Society, the American Bar Association, the Defense Resource Institute, the National Forum for Environmental and Toxic Tort Issues, and the International Network for Environmental Compliance and Enforcement.
He served as president of the Environmental and Emerging Claim Manager Association for several years, held leadership positions on the Global Water Alliance Board of Directors, and actively participates in the Federation of Defense & Corporate Counsel, Environmental Claims Journal Editorial Advisory Board, and the Environmental Inn of Court.
Most importantly, Kelder values mentoring the next generation of claims leaders. He enjoys seeing these professionals advance in their careers and flourish as individuals. He regularly welcomes early claims professionals for a rotation with the Environmental team, ensuring they receive ample one-on-one time with him and other claims leaders.
His dedication to bettering the environment and being a lifelong learner are evident in his master’s degree in environmental policy from the University of Pennsylvania, which he pursued nearly 20 years after completing law school. Commenting on the experience, Kelder says, “The insurance industry has been at the forefront of pollution risk assessment for years, but I wanted to get on the other side of pollution and learn about ways of preventing it before it happens.”
