John Keogh is president and COO of Chubb Group. He has more than 30 years of insurance industry experience. Keogh joined Chubb, then named ACE, in 2006 as chairman of its international general insurance business, which has operations in 54 countries and territories around the world.
“I’m most proud of being part of the leadership team that combined Chubb and ACE into the company it is today,” he says. “Specifically, combining two very successful and proud organizations and creating one company with one culture that preserved the very best of both predecessor companies – from the people, products and services to the enduring relationships with agents, brokers and our customers.”
Keogh was appointed vice chairman in 2010 and has served as COO of Chubb since 2011. He became executive vice chairman in 2015 and president in 2020.
What advice does he have for others? “Ideally, make yourself invaluable, both to the person(s) you work for and those who work for you,” he says. “That should be your guiding light. The path to that starts with hard work, and there is only one person who can govern that effort. Combine that with curiosity, beyond just your area of responsibility, and a real desire to learn every day and be better and smarter tomorrow than you are today. Be a real student of the business. Become an expert in your craft – this will open many paths of opportunity. Be yourself and lead by example. People see through it if you’re not earnest and displaying all the behaviors you are asking of them.”
Before joining the company, Keogh held a range of positions with increasing responsibility during a 20-year career with American International Group (AIG), including senior vice president, Domestic General Insurance and president and CEO of National Union Fire Insurance Company of Pittsburgh (an AIG member company) from 2000 to 2006. Other roles include executive vice president, AIG Domestic Brokerage Group, head of field operations, from 1998 to 2000; and president and CEO, Lexington Insurance Company, from 1997 to 1998. He began his insurance career as an underwriter with AIG in New York in 1986.
Keogh is chairman of the board of overseers for the Maurice R. Greenberg School of Risk Management, Insurance and Actuarial Science at St. John’s University, and he serves on the board of trustees of the Eisenhower Fellowships. He is also on the board of directors of the New York Police and Fire Widows’ and Children’s Benefit Fund, and the Brown University Sports Foundation.
Keogh holds a bachelor’s degree in economics from Brown University.

Johnson placed his energy back into his passion for leading Liberty. He changed the company’s mission statement to “promoting peace of mind with great care” and its core values to “integrity, excellence, caring, kindness, fairness, teamwork, good feelings and fun!” The team embraced these principles in a way that Johnson never would have imagined. They became present in the environment in a very authentic way; they began to serve as the eight North Stars that guide Liberty’s decisions and actions in different situations. Since then, with Johnson at the helm, the company just took off.

Johnson stepped back from day-to-day management of Liberty to pursue his other passion of producing films. During the next 14 years, he made over 30 films, including those starring Brad Pitt, Tom Hanks, Keanu Reeves, Duane “The Rock” Johnson, Johnny Depp, Nicole Kidman, Margot Robbie and others.
