For Kant, learning how to direct and oversee team members with different personalities and backgrounds has been a game changer.
“When I started in insurance, I never thought I would advance from raw deal flow, but as I’ve developed over the years, it’s the quarterbacking of different personalities and managing my team’s strengths and weaknesses/skill sets to best cater to our clients that definitely requires more work than I was ever expecting.”
One element that has enabled Kant to be an effective leader is the ability to delegate.
He explains, “Building a team is immensely rewarding and every day is a day full of learning. As I’ve grown older, taking a step back and being introspective has helped tremendously in my growth as a manager.”
The industry has experienced a challenging period in the past few years, but Kant has been able to maintain success for RPS. This again returns to his ability as a leader to set the tone.
“I’m constantly instilling in my team that you can never take your foot off the gas. While you’re here, give everything you have because before you know it, it will be over. This past year, giving my team my vote of confidence and entrusting them with roles and duties that may be far-reaching will only propel them forward in the industry.”
Motivation is the fulcrum of Kant’s prowess. He relates this to two elements:
Competition: “As time passes, I realize more and more that this business is just about consistent growth and a creative, positive attitude. When the competition is ahead, it’s likely because of their ability to capitalize more quickly on those things.”
Clients: “When my clients succeed, I succeed, and seeing a friend succeed is far more rewarding than anything else in this career.”
Integrity is another of Kant’s calling cards within the industry. He is proud to be known as someone who remains true to his word.
“I have had times throughout the past 15 years where even those closest to me couldn’t believe certain things could be done, but my obsession with getting deals or programs across the goal line, regardless of how long it takes, has always been something I consider my strongest quality, and the one I am most proud of,” he says.
