“Being true to who we are is key; we are purely a referral-based business. There is zero marketing or advertising”
Adam Rakowski,
Ortus Financial
As managing director of Alliant Financial Institutions, Ron Borys is responsible for leading a highly specialized brokerage business that delivers insurance and risk advisory services to a wide array of firms in the financial institutions industry sector, including banks, asset management firms, insurance companies, specialty lenders, private equity and venture capital firms.
Borys has worked as a broker serving clients in the financial services insurance industry throughout his entire 22-year career. Under his leadership, Alliant Financial Institutions has doubled the size of its business over the past five years. The business has posted an impressive client retention rate of over 97 percent and staff retention rate of over 98 percent. His team was recognized as the 2024 “Broker Team of the Year” by a major industry publication.
Growing up in a blue-collar middle-class family, Borys’ parents engrained a strong work ethic in him at a young age, which he considers the foundation of his success as an insurance industry professional today.
“My mom and dad worked really hard to provide a great upbringing for me and my sister, and I credit them for many of the attributes that make me the person I am today. I also have been fortunate to have some great industry mentors throughout my career who taught me the insurance business. These people gave me great advice and opportunities to leverage my natural skills and abilities with acquired industry experience and knowledge to develop into a professional committed to serving clients and leading people,” he says.
In his role, Borys is a strong believer in leading by example, and often jumps into the day-to-day tasks serving clients. Working closely with the brokers he leads and showing his willingness to do the same work he asks them to do for clients, regardless of the task, sends a strong message.
“Staying humble and focused regardless of your success or failures is important. The insurance brokerage industry is highly competitive and can be both rewarding and frustrating at times,” he stresses. “The best team doesn’t always win, and everyone makes mistakes. Learning from everyday experiences and building deep relationships with clients, colleagues and underwriters is the ultimate key to success.”
That mindset, aligned with his commitment to developing and advancing his people makes him stand out.
“I feel very fortunate to have achieved what I have at this stage in my insurance brokerage career, and I am committed to helping my team find that same level of success and satisfaction in their individual careers,” says Borys.
His commitment to educating people on the challenges in the insurance industry also extends to customers.
He says, “Clients and colleagues want transparency from business leaders, which leads to credibility and confidence in relationships. Insurance coverage is mostly triggered when something fails, resulting in a loss, and often at an inopportune time. People want to work for or with someone that they can trust to be there during that challenging event, and who they know cares about doing their part to remediate the situation.”
Borys’ leadership of the Financial Institutions vertical combined with good old-fashioned “roll up your sleeves” hard work has been instrumental in driving successful outcomes for Alliant’s clients.
“Respect and appreciation for client relationships, and the challenges their businesses face every day best positions our brokers to effectively communicate with underwriters and help them negotiate a fair and balanced trade of premium expense for risk transfer,” he says.
Borys is an avid fan of college and professional sports, and lives by the Vince Lombardi quote, “The only place where success comes before work is in the dictionary.”

One of the biggest challenges she faces is balancing the need to grow and optimize broker relationships with the often-complex demands of the construction insurance industry. Brokers can have varying levels of familiarity with Astrus’s offerings, and it can be challenging to bring them up to speed while meeting their unique needs. To address this, Beck focuses on proactive communication and continuous education.
“I collaborate closely with internal Astrus teams to create streamlined, transparent processes that reduce friction in broker interactions,” she says. “I regularly review performance metrics and market trends to adapt strategies in real time, ensuring that brokers have the most relevant tools and information at their disposal.”
This approach not only strengthens broker relationships but also positions Astrus to capture growth opportunities efficiently.
A proud alumna of the University of Georgia’s (UGA) Terry College of Business with a degree in Risk Management, Beck brings 30 years of experience to her career. She began her journey with Sedgwick James after graduating from UGA, then advanced through roles at Aon and Marsh before joining USI Insurance Services in 2018. In 2024, she transitioned from USI to her current role at Astrus.
Her biggest professional achievement has been establishing herself as a female leader in the male-dominated insurance industry.
“Over the years, I’ve been honored to receive recognition from several respected organizations for my commitment to mentoring young professionals, particularly women, who aspire to enter this field,” she reveals. “This is especially meaningful to me because supporting the next generation, by helping them navigate challenges and fostering their confidence, aligns deeply with my passion for creating spaces for them.”
Over the past 12 months, the insurance industry has been characterized by a need for agility and innovation to address economic pressures, evolving risks and changing customer expectations. Insurers are adapting by embracing technology and focusing on customer-centric solutions to navigate these complexities.
“With the industry facing unprecedented challenges, I’ve made it a priority to foster collaboration and openness to innovative solutions. I’ve worked to encourage transparency and proactive communication with brokers and clients alike, ensuring they feel equipped to tackle emerging risks ensuring I help shape a more resilient, responsive industry. I remain committed to leaving a positive, lasting impact on those I work with and the industry,” she says.
This motivation comes from Beck’s deep love for the work she does every day with a commitment to modeling the qualities of a true servant leader.
She explains, “I believe in showing up each day, striving to be even one percent better than the day before. I’m mindful that others are watching, and I want to set an example by being the best version of myself, not only for my family but also for my colleagues and business partners. This mindset drives me to maintain high standards and bring genuine dedication to everything I do.”
Outside of insurance, Beck is a board member of the Los Angeles Blind Children’s Center, Peloton for Business Advisory Board, Delta Gamma, and her alma mater’s Terry Dean’s Advisory Council and The Terry College Emeritus Alumni Board.
