“Being true to who we are is key; we are purely a referral-based business. There is zero marketing or advertising”
Adam Rakowski,
Ortus Financial
As regional product leader and deputy head of cyber, tech, and media at Allianz Commercial for North America, Tiffany Calhoun focuses on national accounts, offering first-class cyber insurance products across all industries.
She says, “I personally love that my current position has enabled me to be a ‘Jack of all trades’. I have been fortunate enough to have a great manager, local and global team, and global support to allow me to get involved in so many different projects – pricing, marketing and product innovation, I feel like I can do everything which keeps the day-to-day extremely exciting and fast-paced.”
Calhoun has been instrumental in working with Allianz Commercial’s alternative risk transfer team to provide creative solutions to address clients’ unique cyber needs with global product offerings through Allianz’s global network and reach.
Over the past 12 months, she has spearheaded a new global initiative to provide insureds valuable pre-breach resources for their cyber policy. It will provide insureds opportunities to review their current network landscapes and be better equipped when and if a data breach were to occur. The new initiative will launch in 2025.
“Whoever thinks insurance is boring hasn’t been paying attention,” she says. “The past 12 months within the wider insurance industry has been a bit of a rollercoaster. We have insureds impacted by natural disaster and greater global macroeconomic conditions, which ultimately will impact specific lines of coverage and the ability to provide capacity across broad geographical areas or how much our insureds are able to afford.”
Calhoun has been integral to the development of refined pricing tools and a driver of innovation in data management. Acting as an SME for the Cyber LOB, she created automatic quoting and binding documentation processes from current rating models. She also serves as a data quality controller for the development of a new rating tool and as a data champion working with Allianz’s head of global cyber analytics.
“Cyber insurance is a unique product due to the fact that every organization has an exposure, whether a small middle-market business or a multinational organization. In the most basic terms, if you have people and data, you have an exposure,” she explains. “We have been experiencing an exciting time of change in market conditions, claims trends, and the use of technology as a meaningful underwriting and data analytic tool.”
Calhoun’s enthusiasm for cyber insurance and eagerness to push the envelope has been a winning mixture.
“My personal mindset has been always thinking about how we can continue to advance cyber insurance as a community and a product that provides meaningful coverage to our insureds, while learning from past events to develop impactful claim scenario models and continuing to think long-term on where this product will be in the next 20 years,” she says.

ELITE WOMEN 2024 JUDGE
“You can’t control the outcome, but you can always control what version of you turns up every day,” he says.
While at the helm of a rapidly growing business and a family that includes two young children at home, Rakowski has learned to manage what he calls a “never-ending list of commitments” that consists of a new team member each month, a new interstate office and two to three new referral partners monthly.
“Our business is a human business, so investing genuine time in every person can be draining on a personal level. Balancing it all is a challenge,” he says. “Simply put, do what you say you will do, and act at all times with honesty and integrity, being respectful and empathetic. The financial outcomes are a byproduct of the human interactions we have.”
Attracting, retaining and delivering exceptional client outcomes and service starts with a sincere interest in their journey and remaining relevant to them as their lives and needs evolve, notes Rakowski. He points out that he and his team put in most of the work upfront in building meaningful relationships, which is a testament to its 99% client retention rate.
He says, “We are clear in the types of clients we work best with and our value proposition. We also look for a cultural alignment with all of our referral partners, and we are acutely aware of our strengths and how different we are from our industry peers.”
Rakowski recently opened a Queensland business and plans a foot in every other capital city. He strives to establish the brokerage as a national business with on-the-ground representation in every state by the end of 2025.
