“No matter how many clients I have, I make sure to call each one personally every quarter. It’s a chance to not only update them on their portfolio, but also check on how they’re doing personally”

At Risk Placement Services since 2015, 29-year-old Katelynn Fellows has worked her way up from an intern to area assistant vice president.
Fellows controls the placement of various commercial properties, which include layered and shared programs, builder’s risk ground-up construction, and renovation projects.
After graduating from Santa Fe College with a bachelor’s in organizational management, she joined RPS as an intern, which has taken her on an incredible journey that brings different challenges daily.
“I currently act as a team lead and help both account managers and marketing brokers with their questions and the hurdles they may encounter throughout the day. I also have my own accounts that I market, and these are usually larger layered and shared tougher-to-place risks,” says Fellows.
“I’m an organized person so I think that’s one item that has helped me face the challenges in my role. I also have worked my way up to a marketing role from account manager and absorbed as much information as I could over the past nine years at RPS. Whenever I am asked to help with an account or find an answer for someone on our team, I use my past experiences and lessons to provide them with feedback.”
Fellows’ work ethic is her greatest asset.
“While I take pride in my personal communication skills and responsiveness to clients, carriers, and team members, I firmly believe that it is my strong work ethic that has propelled me to my current position in this industry. This is an industry where hard work really pays off.”
Being an optimistic person helps her build successful relationships.
“This outlook on life has helped me build and maintain my professional relationships throughout the years. People can often take things too seriously, which only leads to more stress. You’ve got to have fun and enjoy what you do,” she says.
Fellows credits her mentor James Rozzi, RPS area executive vice president, who has had a major impact on her career.
“His exceptional leadership skills, coupled with his extensive industry expertise, have played an instrumental role in shaping me into the accomplished professional I am today,” she explains.
“James’ unwavering support and encouragement have enabled me to continuously grow and push beyond my limits, fostering my professional development on a daily basis. It is evident that he not only prioritizes our team’s success, but also genuinely cares about the well-being and future of his employees within the company and the industry.”
Being named an IBA Rising Star has been eye-opening for Fellows.
“It feels great to be recognized for all the hard work I have put in over the years and it has really made me take a minute to reminisce on my journey and how far I’ve come. My work has paid off and I’m so thankful to be where I am today. I’m looking forward to what’s in store and I do think this recognition will only advance my career,” she says.
