Profile
Lindsay Fisher did not set out to become a benefits consultant. She earned a degree in accounting and spent her early career in HR and operations, sitting on the side of the table that lives with the consequences of benefits decisions. That vantage point shapes everything she does now. As an employee benefits consultant at Higginbotham, she understands the challenges employers face well beyond benefits alone, because she has been the one facing them.
Over her eight years with the firm, Fisher has made healthcare her specialty. She says, “Benefits sit at the intersection of business strategy and human well-being, which is what drew me in.” She has helped employers across many industries manage costs while improving the experience for their people and built a reputation as a subject matter expert in innovative funding strategies, including Individual Coverage Health Reimbursement Arrangements (ICHRAs).
Fisher’s value to her clients lies in finding solutions that are inventive yet still practical to put in place. Rather than rely on a single approach, she fits the strategy to each employer’s culture, workforce, and long-term goals. “I believe creativity is important, but so is pragmatism. The most successful solutions are innovative enough to create meaningful results while remaining practical for employers and employees to adopt,” she explains.
For all the technical depth the role demands, Fisher names empathy as her strongest professional quality. “Technical expertise is important, but people remember how you make them feel,” she says. Healthcare can be overwhelming, and benefits often become most meaningful when someone is facing a diagnosis, caring for a loved one, or simply trying to understand their options. Being a resource in those moments is what she considers the real privilege of the job.
It is also how she measures success. For Fisher, the achievement she is proudest of is earning a client’s trust. “When a CFO tells me we’ve helped shape a stronger long-term strategy, an HR leader says they finally feel supported, or an employee shares that we helped them access the care they needed, those moments define success far more than any metric or award ever could,” she says.
Her instinct to make the complicated feel manageable extends past her clients. Fisher speaks at industry conferences, runs employer education sessions, and sits on expert panels, convinced that advisors have a duty to simplify complexity and empower better decisions. The same belief drives how she works with her own team. A mentor once recognized her potential before she saw it herself, and now she feels a responsibility to invest in others as someone generously invested in her before.
Being named as one of IBA’s Rising Stars for 2026 has sharpened Fisher’s sense of purpose rather than changed it. “While awards are appreciated, they are not the destination,” she says. “They are reminders to keep learning, improving, and helping others succeed.”
