Paige Kremer sums up her approach to the job in four letters: FILO, first in, last out. “I want to be the first person at the office, the last to leave. I want to show up for the people I champion in every aspect of my life,” she says. For an executive vice president at RT Specialty, showing up is not a slogan but a working method, and it has carried her through 16 years in the industry.
The grit behind that philosophy has mattered most from the start. Persistence, the late nights and early mornings, the work done when no one else is awake, is what made retailers and carriers come to rely on Kremer, especially when she was younger than her peers. Just as important is composure when deals fall through. “You can lose a number of deals doing everything right, and you need to keep your cool and push toward the next one when things don’t work out,” she says.
That long view runs through everything Kremer does. She talks about her career as a marathon rather than a sprint, building one deal at a time, where wins beget wins and even losses can teach enough to count as wins. Sixteen years in, she feels like she is just getting started.
Honesty about what she does not know has been one of her greatest strengths. “I’ve just never pretended to know anything I don’t know,” Kremer says. Rather than feign expertise for short-term gain, she follows up after every meeting and learns from each new connection. Because of this practice, over time, she has developed deep experience in areas while leveraging the knowledge of specialists in others. This habit has earned the trust of her retailer clients.
Kremer does not point to a deal as the biggest achievement of her career, but moreover, “hiring the people around me and coaching them to succeed”, she says. She wants her bench to be deep enough that anyone dealing with her team gets consistent, confident support from every person on it.
Underpinning it all is empathy, the quality that Kremer rates as her strongest. She says, “There is nothing I love more than learning what makes others tick. How can we win together? How can we execute for our clients?” Caring deeply about the people she works with lets her set aside any short-term benefit to herself and do what it takes to meet a client’s needs, always with the longer relationship in mind.
For Kremer, being recognized as one of IBA’s Rising Stars for 2026 is a chance to keep winning and to bring others along. She hopes to push someone through those hard early stages of building a career and to connect with more retail trading partners and carriers who share her appetite to win.
