Profile
Thomas Harkins is a commercial property and casualty underwriter specializing in selective accounts within the E&S market, focusing on small to mid-sized commercial risks. He began his insurance career in 2017 at Brown & Riding, bringing a unique background as a US Navy veteran.
Harkins joined Brown & Riding as an entry-level employee in the firm’s service center. Through consistent performance and strong technical aptitude, he advanced from service center employee to managing his own book of business and leading an underwriting team. He holds the Certified Insurance Service Representative (CISR) designation and is actively involved in industry organizations, including Young Risk Professionals, the Florida Surplus Lines Association, and the Insurance Industry Charitable Foundation. He regularly attends the WSIA Underwriting Summit and educational seminars hosted by Lloyd’s of London and has supported Brown & Riding’s partnership with the University of Mississippi’s Center for Insurance Transformation by mentoring interns from the program.
Harkins takes a consultative approach to underwriting, proactively identifying coverage gaps and presenting comprehensive solutions that help retail brokers better serve their clients. His professional philosophy is grounded in the discipline and leadership principles developed through his military service. He is dedicated to technical excellence, exceptional client service, and developing the next generation of underwriting professionals.
