The biggest challenge he faces is the high hurdle of standing out as an industry-leading wholesale broker in a crowded field. “Top brokers are a valued asset in a transaction,” he says. Rather than sidestep skepticism, Johnson meets it directly, using proven expertise and product knowledge to control the narrative and place business properly. Honesty and directness with both carriers and retailers allow him to work quickly, which is what the role demands.
Balance is central to how he operates. “I am humble enough to sit back and listen when I need to but confident enough to stand up and take control when necessary,” Johnson says. Early in his career, that humility shaped a deliberate approach to learning. He sought out people with more knowledge, focusing on the industries he planned to tackle so he could build the relationships that success would later require. A mentor helped him understand the right and wrong ways of operating in the industry and how to adjust accordingly.
A decade in, IBA’s Rising Stars 2026 recognition has given Johnson a chance to take stock. He still competes directly against the established names in his space, and the honor has reassured him that he is doing the right things. For a broker whose defining trait is showing up every day, the recognition reads less as a finish line than as confirmation that he is on the right track.
