“No matter how many clients I have, I make sure to call each one personally every quarter. It’s a chance to not only update them on their portfolio, but also check on how they’re doing personally”

Lindsay Dress is the EVP in RT Specialty’s property practice. In addition to having a solid education in finance and psychology from the University of Missouri-Columbia, she brings years of insurance experience from both the retail broker side of the business and the wholesale brokerage space. Leveraging her experience of having worked for medium- and large-sized brokerage firms in various geographies, she now has a diverse base of retail agents and broker clients from across the country. She has quickly built a large book of business that consists of unique and complex property placements.
Dress knows how to get to the heart of matters right away, zoning in on client needs and marrying them with workable solutions, often in the most challenging classes of business.
“With the accelerated hardening of the catastrophe-exposed marketplace and continued public adjuster involvement, markets that generally participate in catastrophe-exposed business are reducing their participation and sometimes pulling out of this space all together,” she says. “For instance, MGUs that were providing large ground-up limits in coastal Texas regions for public entity business have exited the market entirely due to unexpected loss creep and unfavorable results. Our team had to get creative to provide a placement with large limits to cover very concentrated values, and in the final hour, a large amount of capacity had to be replaced due to market conditions. Thankfully, with our strong carrier relationships and volume in the marketplace, we were able to leverage replacement capacity to make the program complete with time to spare.”
Dress leads a diverse property brokerage team located in both Dallas and Kansas City. She takes a consultative approach to client engagement, providing risk management services that add value beyond the scope of the insurance transaction. She attributes a large part of her success to always approaching her client inquiries with a healthy sense of urgency, balancing honest and direct communication with professional courtesy and respect for the relationship.
Dress is actively involved in supporting, mentoring and creating opportunities for those on her team and throughout RT Specialty who are interested in pursuing a production role or other forms of professional development.
What are her plans for the future?
“Growth and evolution,” she says. “I am committed to constant professional and personal development for both myself, my team and my clients.”
