“No matter how many clients I have, I make sure to call each one personally every quarter. It’s a chance to not only update them on their portfolio, but also check on how they’re doing personally”
Kelvin Rampersad,
Carte Wealth Management
An 18-year veteran of the insurance industry, Reed Rhoden, CIC, TRIP’s career has taken him across the country and from retail agent to wholesale broker, but one thing has always remained constant: his focus on the trucking industry.
“The truck insurance market can be fast-paced and volatile,” he says. “Markets burn out and disappear every year, and there’s always a market that thinks they can do it better than everyone else, and it rarely works out that way.”
Trucking coverage was Rhoden’s initial entrée into the insurance world, and he has fostered and developed a passion for the line of business that spans almost two decades. Particularly, he likes the fact that trucking is an ultra-specialized and precise industry, and, through M.J. Hall, he provides coverage to businessowners in underrepresented markets.
“I would say the biggest challenge in my career has been constantly keeping my finger on the pulse of the market, so that we can be agile enough to keep up with the changing landscape,” he adds. “I spend time every week researching our competition and looking for new innovative ways to help our agents win more often.”
Genial and easygoing, Rhoden prides himself on his ability to build and maintain relationships with his agents, fostering trust and providing best-in-class customer service that keeps them coming back year after year.
Rhoden began his career as a producer at Insurance Unlimited of Louisiana in 2003 and, in 2006, was given a satellite office. In 2008, he moved to Appalachian Underwriters in Knoxville, TN, where he started as an internal marketing representative. From 2009 to 2012, he launched a startup agency called The Firm of Louisiana in Lake Charles, LA, which still employs his original partners and has grown into a $50 million agency. From 2012 to 2014, he returned to Appalachian Underwriters to be an external field marketing representative for Northern California, Oregon, and Nevada. From 2014 to 2018, he worked as a wholesale insurance broker/MGA with Hull & Company/Brown & Brown. He has been with M.J. Hall & Company since 2018, where he is now an AVP and senior broker.
What are his plans for the future?
“More of the same,” he says. “Trucks carry over 70% of goods in the United States, and new challenges like environmental regulation, electric and autonomous vehicles, and ever rising fuel and insurance costs, present themselves daily. It’s an industry that’s been good to me and my family, and I plan to continue helping to address their challenges for as long as they will have me.”
While he also counts insurance among his hobbies, when not working, Rhoden enjoys hiking, DIY house projects and following his son’s basketball career.
