As an executive vice president in RT Specialty’s Chicago office, Ted Cornell focuses on tough property and inland marine risks. “I was always interested in real estate and construction and had some jobs while in school in this space, so it was a natural path for me,” says Cornell. “Once I began my career in the E&S Industry, I saw the opportunity to have a real effect on our client’s outcomes. From the beginning, I made it a goal to run a team and work as closely with our clients and markets as possible.”
Working alongside a team of brokers with expertise across diverse and emerging industries, including construction, real estate, and manufacturing, Cornell specializes in difficult risk placements but approaches business matters with simplicity.
“My approach is to always simplify things. We are in a service business and our main responsibility in every interaction is to add value,” he says. “That comes through responsiveness, expertise, and delivering results.”
“I’ve always been able to connect with our clients and markets in a way that I think establishes trust. At heart, I’m a people person and connecting with our clients and markets is what I like to do most.”
In addition to building a successful book of business, for leaders like Cornell, success is also about helping team members thrive.
“Seeing the careers and opportunities we have been able to create for the brokers on our team is our biggest achievement,” he reflects.
