“No matter how many clients I have, I make sure to call each one personally every quarter. It’s a chance to not only update them on their portfolio, but also check on how they’re doing personally”

Jared Boring is VP, brokerage and underwriting at WestPac, and has carved out an outstanding professional reputation in insurance despite initially planning for a career in law enforcement.
With a degree in criminal justice, he joined the insurance industry as a claims adjuster in 2010.
“My strongest qualities professionally are responsiveness, problem-solving, and work ethic. I’m committed to being quick to respond and addressing challenges head on, always striving to find effective solutions,” he says.
Detailing his way of operating, Boring highlights how it is vital to be innovative and proactive.
“My approach is centered around working hard, adding value to both our agents and carrier partners, and staying focused on solutions. I truly believe that if you commit to delivering value and putting in the effort, everything else will fall into place.”
In his current role overseeing all brokers and underwriters at WestPac, Boring focuses on his home state of Colorado after noticing a clear need for more contractor markets in the area.
He explains, “By partnering with carriers, we successfully brought them into the state, often consulting on region-specific forms and even helping to shape some of the guidelines. Our involvement in government affairs and active participation in local legislation has kept us closely connected to the needs of the industry.”
Another factor key to Boring’s success is his deep understanding of the challenges clients face in Colorado, due to WestPac being both local and independent.
“Our agents want a partner who is just as invested in their success as they are, someone who can respond quickly and provide solutions in a challenging insurance environment.”
Boring’s standards are driven by clear and consistent communication. While he will always attempts to provide a solution for every risk, if this isn’t possible, then he gives the retailer a prompt 'no' rather than a prolonged 'maybe'.
In his leadership position, the biggest challenge is talent acquisition as WestPac is a regional independent company but must compete with national players.
“To overcome this, we’ve shifted our approach by hiring individuals with little to no experience in the industry and training them ourselves. We believe in providing opportunities for growth without the limitations of a glass ceiling,” he says. “A big part of our focus is creating a positive work culture and fostering strong employee morale, which helps us improve retention and long-term employee satisfaction.
Having responsibility and being able to mentor and support others is something Boring enjoys. He makes a point of sharing knowledge and creating a deeper talent pool.
“The opportunity to lead our broker and underwriting teams has been incredibly rewarding. I help cultivate and grow my team while offering them opportunities in such a dynamic industry. My role also gives me a seat at the table, where I can contribute to shaping the direction of the company and making a real impact.”
